According to Autotropolis.com test ratings, the ten safest cars are not just the safest in any one category. Several safety factors are weighed measuring reliability, security, handling in all kinds of weather, collision testing, features, view of the road, and child friendliness. The ratings of the individual factors are averaged to determine the vehicles overall safety rating.

Autotropolis.com uses the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety ratings at safercar.gov in determining its top ten ratings. NHTSA rates vehicle safety from one to five stars in six categories.
